Shelters to Shutters Launches Operations in Houston

Names City Advisory Board for Greater Impact in Lifting Individuals Out of Homelessness and Announces April 2nd Hiring Event

HOUSTON, TX. – March 11, 2020 –Shelters to Shutters (S2S), a national non-profit that transitions individuals and families from homelessness to economic self-sufficiency, launches full-time operations with an April 2nd hiring event and the appointment of a Houston City Advisory Board (CAB). The CAB will build partnerships and capacity in Houston to further expand S2S’s innovative approach to lifting individuals out of homelessness and into employment and housing.  Real Estate partners for the non-profit venture include Adara, Gables, and Waterton.

“After the success of a year-long pilot, we are excited to begin full-time operations in Houston with the launch of our CAB,” said Andy Helmer, CEO of S2S.   “Crossing multiple industries, these business leaders bring a range of knowledge and a lot of passion to bring our private sector solution to the issue of homelessness in Houston. We look forward to working with them to increase support and awareness about Shelters to Shutters’ program and accelerate our ability to change the lives of more individuals and families in the Houston area who are experiencing homelessness.”

The City Advisory Board will oversee S2S planning and operations in Houston. “Shelters to Shutters’ unique approach of offering both housing and employment through partnerships with apartment industry companies will have lasting impact in Houston,” said Dave Prince, Jr., City Advisory Board Member.  “The April 2nd hiring event is the first step in matching ready-to-work individuals with jobs and housing.”
