Prior to Entryway, Charlie had worked plenty of jobs, including maintenance work, but hadn’t found the stability and longevity a career could offer. With the added expenses brought on by a new baby, he and his wife quickly faced losing their housing. As bills mounted, Charlie knew he had to find something sustainable, reliable, and full of potential to provide for his family.
While exploring career options through his local community college, Charlie was introduced to Entryway, where he was able to enroll in Entryway Houston’s one-week multifamily maintenance training, offered in partnership with industry leaders and vendors. From the very first day, Charlie showed up with determination and heart. He came ready to build on his existing skills, learn the ins and outs of the apartment industry, and prepare for a long-term career path—he wasn’t just looking for a job, this time was different.
“It made me excited again for my future,” Charlie shared. Throughout the training, Charlie received technical knowledge, hands-on skills training, resume and interview coaching. With this comprehensive wraparound support, Charlie felt empowered and ready.
Charlie met with recruiters from several of Entryway’s Houston’s multifamily housing partners. His professionalism and potential shone through, and before long, he was offered a role as a Make-Ready Technician at a local apartment community.
“It put me right where I need to be—to show my skills and set me up for future roles.”
Today, Charlie not only works on-site, but lives there too. Through partnerships, Entryway provided him with a fully furnished unit, supported his move-in costs to ensure that he and his family wouldn’t just have a job—they’d have a home.
“Entryway gave me hope at a time when I wasn’t able to see it for myself. A lot of times, people just don’t know how to find the job or the opportunity. Entryway shows you the door—and helps you walk through it.”
Charlie’s journey reflects the true impact of Entryway’s model: when you pair job placement with affordable housing and personalized support, you don’t just change lives—you rebuild them.
