S2S brings its national solution to situational homelessness to Charleston, South Carolina with the support of the Charleston Apartment Association and Middleburg Communities.
VIENNA, Va. – June 8, 2022 –Shelters to Shutters (S2S), a national non-profit that transitions individuals and families from homelessness to economic self-sufficiency through partnerships with multifamily housing companies, announced today that Daniel Stern has joined the organization as Executive Director. As the designated charity of the Charleston Apartment Association (CAA) and with the support of multifamily real estate firm, Middleburg Communities, Charleston launches as the eighth market for Shelters to Shutters.
In his role as Executive Director, Daniel will spearhead efforts on the ground to place individuals into full time employment, housing, and career training opportunities in partnership with members of the Charleston Apartment Association and S2S national multifamily housing partners.

Daniel comes to Shelters to Shutters with extensive nonprofit experience in the Lowcountry having served as Executive Director for three organizations in Charleston over the past eleven years. Daniel’s work in the nonprofit sector has included leading organizations with missions supporting community empowerment, economic development, and the special needs community. Most recently Daniel co-founded a nonprofit project management company called Calloway Stern Group. CS Group works with small to medium sized nonprofits in South Carolina, increasing their capacity in fundraising, programming, and administration. The company has worked with more than 20 nonprofits thus far, helping them to grow and reach their goals. The company’s unique approach was created to help nonprofits accomplish goals that may elude them due to organizational capacity. Currently, he also serves on the board of People in Partnership, a minimum fee based fiscal sponsor nonprofit organization, which supports new nonprofits awaiting their 501(c)(3) approval.

S2S partners with over 30 apartment management companies, such as Middleburg Communities, to place people experiencing situational homelessness in onsite, entry-level jobs, and provide them with housing at the same communities where they work. S2S provides each participant with career mentoring and access to support services to ensure a successful long-term transition. S2S works with multiple referring organizations serving at-risk populations to identify suitable job applicants. The program changes the lives of individuals and families while providing quality, motivated employees for a rapidly growing industry in need of talent.
