Hownisha graduated college at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. After graduation, she had a job offer, but due to circumstances around COVID-19 the employer rescinded the offer. No longer able to live on campus once graduated and not being able to live with her family long-term, she found herself without a place to live. She was able to get into the Housing Up Transitional Housing program for youth 18-24 years while she continued to look for employment. When asked about it Hownisha commented, “It was very, a very scary time. I was really terrified. Honestly.”
She was introduced to Entryway’s program and faithfully attended trainings, workshops and worked with temporary staffing companies within multifamily to gain experience. Entryway National Capital Region Program Manager, Arniesha Hollman, continued to work with Hownisha and encourage her until finally that full time offer with an Entryway Industry Partner came. Hownisha was hired as a Resident Services Coordinator with Pennrose and was provided with a discounted apartment at a nearby Pennrose community.
When asked about her experience with Entryway, Hownisha said, “It definitely opens up more opportunities to you and gives you the confidence to go after those opportunities.”
