Poole brings his expertise in breaking down barriers for access to housing to further advance the national nonprofit’s mission of assisting families with gaining economic independence
VIENNA, VA – November 19, 2024 – Entryway, a workforce development, employment and housing nonprofit, announced today that Tyrone Poole, President and Founder of OneApp, has joined its National Board of Directors to serve a three-year term. Poole founded OneApp, a co-signing service for denied or conditionally approved housing applicants, after experiencing homelessness and the challenges that come with finding and qualifying for housing. A medical emergency while going through EMT/firefighter training led to homelessness and put him on a journey to help society’s most vulnerable have access to housing and upward mobility.
Poole has won US and international innovation awards including the 1776 Challenge Cup Global Innovation Award: First Place People’s Choice Award and 5th Most Promising Tech Startup World-Wide, 2018 Business Journal Forty under Forty Award, 2018 Business Journal Executive of the Year, 2017 Fast Company United States Innovation Award, The Oregon Entrepreneurs Network 2016 Wyatt Starnes Award for most promising early-stage tech entrepreneur, and won the Pitch Black contest in 2015. Poole has been featured on TEDx, serves on several boards, including empowering future leaders through REAP, and is the father of five daughters.
“Tyrone is an inspiring and innovative leader, and we are thrilled to have him join our National Board of Directors. His vision to assist vulnerable populations with housing and stability through his work at OneApp perfectly aligns with our mission at Entryway,” commented David Williams, Entryway President & CEO. “His experience with the challenges of homelessness, barriers individuals and families that we serve come against, and his passion to find solutions will be an incredible asset to our organization’s leadership.”
Entryway sources, screens, trains and places highly motivated and capable individuals in high demand on-site jobs in partnership with 90 leading apartment owners and operators. The organization works with multiple referring partners in each of its local markets as well as nationally to identify suitable job applicants who are struggling with or at risk of homelessness. Entryway upskills program participants through online and in-person training opportunities to get them ready for full time positions in the apartment industry such as leasing, maintenance and groundskeeping. Entryway also offers participants interview skills, job coaching, financial literacy and access to 1:1 mentoring. The program changes the lives of individuals and families while providing quality, motivated employees for a rapidly growing industry in need of talent.
“I have yet to come across an organization as aligned in both mission and vision to OneApp as Entryway. The synergy is unreal and together the opportunities are endless,” said Poole.
