Shelters to Shutters Names Richard McDaniel National Director of Program and Operations

S2S adds Director of Program and Operations to advance its national programmatic initiatives and support local operations across the country.

VIENNA, Va. – December 21, 2021–Shelters to Shutters (S2S), a national non-profit that transitions individuals and families from homelessness to economic self-sufficiency through partnerships with apartment companies, announced today that Richard McDaniel has joined the organization as National Director of Program and Operations.

Richard comes to S2S with over 15 years of non-profit experience. Over his non-profit career, he successfully managed several programs serving the homeless and veteran community.  Most recently, he served as the Chief of Client Services for Jewish Family and Children’s Services of the Suncoast, a non-profit offering mental health and social services to six counties in Florida.

“Richard’s extensive experience with homeless services and employment programming will immediately add value to the clients we serve on a day to day basis and our internal team,” said David Williams, Shelters to Shutters’ President and CEO. “His leadership will also contribute directly to our long-term strategy as we continue to grow and scale our program across the nation.”

S2S partners with over 40 apartment management companies to place people experiencing homelessness in onsite, entry-level jobs, and provide them with housing at the same communities where they work. S2S provides each participant with career mentoring and access to support services to ensure a successful long-term transition. S2S works with multiple homeless-focused non-profits to identify suitable job applicants. The program changes the lives of individuals and families while providing quality, motivated employees for a rapidly growing industry in need of talent.

“I am very excited to be joining such a fantastic organization and team. Providing clients with both housing and employment drastically decreases their chances of returning to homelessness. This combination is unique within homeless services and allows homelessness to be rare, brief, and non-reoccurring,” said McDaniel.

In 2021, Shelters to Shutters added Executive Directors on the ground in five key markets: Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Nashville and the National Capital Region. The Executive Directors work in partnership with local City Advisory Board Members, leaders within their local communities committed to the mission of the organization. In 2022, Shelters to Shutters has plans to expand five additional cities to provide a hand up to individuals facing situational homelessness and return them to economic independence.
